How To Decoupage A Cigar Box

Today I'm joining Beverly of How Sweet The Sound for her Pink Saturday linky party and Melissa of Those Northern Skies, thank you ladies for hosting such fun linkies.

For today's craft, I'm going to make this cute little box.

Here's what you'll need: a cigar box, some pretty scrapbook paper
My favorite magical medium: Mod Podge

A paper cutter, scissors, acrylic paint, large brush and detailing brush:
First, paint your box edges, the areas that you will not decoupage (decoupage means to glue paper to a surface).   I painted around the hardward so that It can match the paper when I position it there.
Next, after it dries, trim your paper to size, use a paper trimmer or a pair of scissors will do
Next, with a sponge brush, apply the Mod Podge to the surface of the box, one side at a time
then, position the paper on top
gently, with your fingers or a brayer, press paper down gently to ensure that there are no air bubbles
If you damage the paper, like I did here, see the white spot? the paper rubbed off
Don't panic! it's fixable.  Just cut a piece off a spare sheet and using Mod Podge, glue it on top
and like nothing happened, see:
Next, brush the entire box with Mod Podge, it will look white but don't worry, it will dry clear.  This Mod Podge layer will seal and protect your box
Set it on top of something to dry:
Once dry, you can embellish it with something that matches....or not...totally up to you.  I place a flower on top with matching paper.  Decorate the inside as well with matching paper.

What will I use this pretty box for???

my Sharpies, of course!

Pink Chocolate Gift Box

Today I'm joining Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for her Pink Saturday linky party.  Also, Laura at Along For the Ride.

I made a cute little chocolate gift box.  It's very easy to make and I actually got the idea from Shelley at ShelleyHopps.com.  Click on her name and visit her, her website is just full of creative and fun ideas.

Here's what the completed box looks like:

Here's what you'll need, a small hole punch or circle punch

1 piece of solid color scrapbook paper 3 11/16" X 8 1/2"
2 pieces of solid color scrapbook paper 2 1/5" X 2 1/2"
1 piece of decorative scrapbook paper 2 5/16" X 2 5/16"
1 piece of contrasting scrapbook paper 7 1/2" X 5/8"

A ruler, a pencil, 3 small Ghiradelli chocolates, scissors, bone folder (or spoon), double sided tape.

First, take your largest cut scrapbook paper (measurements from above 3 11/16" X 8 1/2").

Using your ruler, mark the paper as follows.  At 2" at  4" at 6" and at 8" as shown below.  Again, using your ruler, mark the paper at 1" and 2" along the length of the paper.  Here's what it will look like:
TIP: you can use a pencil and after your paper is folded, you can erase the lines.

Next, cut off the squares I marked with an X and cut on the bold lines I marked below:
End result will look like this:

Next, for along the solid lines and crease with a bone folder or the back of a spoon to make the folds.

Now fold the box and glue or tape it in place, it should look like this:
Next, take the smaller pieces (from measurements above solid 2 1/2" X 2 1/2):

Next, take your circle cutter or scissors or hole punch and punch out all four corners from both pieces:

Next, glue or use double sided tape to place one smaller piece on top and one on the bottom.

Next, do the same for the decorative scrapbook paper square
Glue or tape with double sided tape to the top of the box:

Next, fold your strip of paper (from measurement above 7 12/16" by 5/8" to fit around the box, this will hold the box closed.

use tape to close the strip

Next, find an embellishment to add on top.  I used a pink flower I made.  You can find the tutorial for the flower Here

Origami Gift Box

Happy Pink Saturday Everyone!!!

Today I'm going to post a tutorial for an origami box.

Here's what you'll need: decorative scrapbook paper, paper trimmer, spray adhesive, card stock, and bone folder or a spoon will work too.

The spray adhesive is not really needed if you are going to make this box with heavy cardstock, I like the decorative flower paper but it's too thin for this project so I adhered it to a thick cardstock.

The decorative paper I'm using is actually scented drawer liners and they smell soooo pretty, just like flowers. I got 6 sheets 16.5" by 23" each one.  I got them for a reasonable price too at TJ Max.
and look at the box it came in,very pretty.  I'll be using it to store my ribbon when I'm finished with the paper.

If you are not using regular size scrapbook paper, you will need to trim it to 12" by 12" and a separate piece that's 12" x 5".  Your finished box will measure approx 4.5" by 4.5"

Here's a link that will show you step by step easy to follow instructions on how to fold your paper:

When you go to the site, you may need to scroll down until you get to the pictures.

Origami Box

If you use a spoon or bone folder to press hard on your folds, it will make it a LOT easier once you are ready to put the box together.

One of the folds is kind of hard to follow so I'm posting pictures of it.  The extra pictures might help.  This is the part where you have to fold the corners in:

and complete the fold, do this for all sides:
Once you fold your paper into a box, you can now finish the cover.  My cover is 12" by 5".  I glued the thin liner paper onto a heavy cardstock to make it stronger and glued ribbon in between:

Next, you will need to fold it over the box like the picture below.  Place it  under the box and make the folds on the back to bring the cover all the way over the top:

Make sure it all fits well before you glue the box bottom and back side of the the cover

Glue or attach the box with double sided tape to the cover bottom of the box and back side:
you can click the picture below to see it close up or double click to see it even closer

And that's it! you have a very pretty gift box that you made yourself for someone special in your life.  Here's a closer look:

I took a card making class a few months ago with a very friendly and talented group of ladies.  The ladies made these boxes for Christmas.  They all turned out very pretty and it's where I got the idea of making the cover this way.  Previously, I had been making the cover by making a slightly larger box but I like this cover much better.

Today I'm linking to these parties:
