Witch's Boots Tutorial

Finally what everyone has been asking me about, how to make a pair of Witch's boots like the ones on the Halloween tablescape, see here:
While I can't take the credit for making those cute little boots, I'll show you a way you too can make your own.  It all starts with a visit to the thrift shop.

These are the ones I decided to purchase, a dark brown pair for five dollars

I used some gloss black spray paint and sprayed them two coats.
I used Air Dry Clay, you can find it at Michael's the Arts and Crafts Store and a water spray bottle, you'll need to spray the clay because it gets dry very easily.
I used the clay to mold a piece that will go at the end of the boots:
I affixed these tips to the boots to mold and make sure I get a snug fit.  Let the tips dry for 24 hours.
Next, spray paint the tips with the spray paint to match the boots and adhere them with hot glue
see, how clever:
Next, we'll hide the seam around the tip with ribbon, I liked the ribbon so much I adhered it all the way to the top.  Use your hot glue gun to adhere the ribbon to your boot
Next, get some more ribbon or some shoe laces, mine are actually purple but all the pictures I took came out blue.  Use your heat gun to adhere the shoe lace criss cross all the way up.
Tie a bow at the top
next, use some fabric or paper or tulle to make a bow.  I used tulle and added a button
You can't wear them but you can use it as home decor for Halloween
I'm using them on my Halloween table
Thanks for coming by, hope you liked this tutorial.  Let me know if you try it, I'd like to see how yours come out.

Spooky Sodas

Halloween is just around the corner and if you're hosting a party, you're probably already planning everything from the creepy decorations to the scary invitations to the gross and funky food.  This is an easy project that will add a little fun to your Halloween party and your guests will enjoy.

Here's what I used:
The awesome Mod Podge and colored paper, you will also need white printer paper to print graphics for the labels
a paper trimmer or scissors

Acrylic paint
a variety of sodas.  I used Crush because they had all the Halloween colors.  The grape colored sodas actually look black, perfect for bat juice

First, trace out the box tray with colored paper and trim to size.  Next, use Mod Podge to glue pieces on the box
Print out some labels using Microsoft Word or download them from the internet.  I used some Ranger Distress Ink to distress the picture

Rub the ink on the paper.  The distressed picture will look like this:

Trim your labels with scissors and use Mod Podge to glue on the bottles and on the boxes

Next, paint the tops with acrylic paint

and here's the finished product:

Cute aren't they?

Halloween Glass Vase

First of all, thank you all so much to all of you for your kind comments, they really make my day.  Remember when electronic mail was new and how excited you got when you received an email? well, that's the feeling I get when ever I receive a new comment, thank you all.

We FINALLY get Fall weather here in Los Angeles, but only for a couple of days.  We're going back to summer by the weekend.  It even rained today with THUNDER and all.  Well, it really was more like a drizzle, but the clouds were very dark and it was very COLD, like 60 degrees farenheit.

We really need the rain, everyone here loves it when it rains.  It gets people in a good mood everywhere.  Like when I went grocery shopping earlier today.  The guy in front of me let me go first!!!! WHAT???!!! I know, right.  He was buying a case of beer, obviously he was going to watch sports on TV, and he actually let me go first.  That never happens in the summertime.  In the summertime, everyone waits their turn.  The nine month pregnant lady barely able to stand, she waits, the mom with ten screaming kids, she waits, the elderly man with a cane, he waits.  BUT! we get a little drizzle and......everybody turns into Mary Poppins.

I have another Halloween craft today. This one is so easy, you can do it in flash. I first saw something very similar to what I'm showing today at Marshall's and I LOVED it BUT it was $14.99 too pricey, I thought.  I loved it so much that I had to find a way to make it that didn't empty my wallet.  Thank goodness for the Dollar Tree Store, they carry this glass vase that was perfect for this project costing me only a dollar plus supplies I already had at home.

Here's what the final vase looks like:

First get all your supplies ready: A black or dark brown sharpie, a glass vase from the Dollar Tree Store or 99C only store:

You can also use any left over jars like a coffee ( the one pictued below is from the large size coffee), spaghetti jar, jam jar, what ever you have around.  An easy way to remove the label is with GooGone.

First, peel off the plastic lable with your fingers, then, pour some Goo Gone on a cotton swab or napkin and rub on the label.  The glue residue will dissolve very quickly.  It won't give you any trouble at all.  You can find this product at Lowe's or Home Depot or you can order it online.  Try finding it on www.ebay.com  It is a very inexpensive adhesive remover and works on gum, glue or anything else that's sticky.  It's a little stinky but you'll be happy with the results.

You will also need a bird paper punch, Mod Podge, a sponge, and black paper.  This paper punch is a Martha Stewart brand:

Take your sharpie and draw lines that look like twigs:

If you make a mistake, don't worry, you can erase with acetone:
Next, punch out your birds:
Take your Mod Podge and glue the birds on the ends of the twigs you drew.  And there you have it, a cute Halloween Vase.  I painted some twigs with black glossy spray paint.

You can also place a black candle inside or some of those bloody fingers:

Or, take one of those plastic battery operated candles and place inside:

Happy Decorating, Craft On!
